Built to Float: The Peter Appleton Story
Thirty-eight years of commercial inflatable recreation, manufacturing discipline, A pioneer engineered for the future of water leisure.
I have spent 38 years building, testing, refining, and protecting the standards behind commercial inflatable water recreation. Since 1988, I have been part of the original global pioneers who shaped this industry. My work has always been about understanding the complete reality of commercial use, then engineering a better answer.
A commercial inflatable is not merely a colourful toy. It is a working platform exposed to ultraviolet light, abrasion, pressure changes, weather, repeated assembly, enthusiastic users, and the unforgiving economics of a busy site.
Era 1 · 1988–2010 · The Frontier Craftsman
The Genesis of an Industry: Sketching the Blueprints of Play and Leisure
When I began in 1988, there was no automated super-factory waiting to convert a product idea into finished units. We worked from drawings, physical measurements, material samples, and practical knowledge gained by putting structures into real situations. Every curve, chamber, baffle, attachment point, handle, and reinforcement had to earn its place.
Cold-air structures taught me volume, stability, and serviceability. Airtight structures taught me pressure management, seam integrity, valve placement, and long-term leak prevention. Those years removed the illusion that manufacturing is separate from design.
Era 2 · 2011–2025 · The Global Pipeline & the Guangzhou Custom Factory
Operating the Pipeline: 15 Years of Direct-from-Factory Control in China
In 2010, I moved into a global operating model without abandoning the craft discipline that defined my first 23 years. For 15 years, I owned and operated custom factory lines in China, gaining direct control over raw PVC selection, pattern development, welding, reinforcement, pressure testing, quality inspection, packaging, freight coordination, and North American marketing.
Direct control kept quality and accountability clear. We developed repeatable production methods while preserving the inspection habits of a small workshop. The factory became more sophisticated; my standards did not become less demanding.
The Modern Dual-Engine Ecosystem
Bespoke Engineering for Global Resorts and Luxury Private Docks
One mission is active recreation at scale. The other is refined waterfront living. Each benefits from the same foundation of material knowledge, factory control, and direct accountability.
Aqua Play Parks supplies turn-key commercial lake setups for campgrounds and resorts. Inflatable Island engineers pristine lifestyle assets such as floating docks and luxury platforms.
The Legacy Move · 2026 & Beyond · The Float Club
The Float Club: Transforming Maritime Innovation Into Recurring Revenue
In 2026 and beyond, I see the Float Club as the culmination of 38 years of textile physics, commercial fabrication, and high-PSI drop-stitch engineering. The concept connects durable floating assets to a recurring-revenue model for marinas and investors.
This is not a departure from my history; it is the business model that history prepared me to build. The same refusal to accept disposable vinyl now becomes a commitment to assets that can produce value season after season.
Partner with Decades of Direct-from-Factory Expertise
I invite marina owners, resort operators, campground groups, investors, and waterfront visionaries to bring me the real brief. I will bring the perspective of 38 years and the discipline to engineer an asset that belongs on your water.
